Product Description

The baby in our displacement sensor range is the AML/M series miniature LVDT.  Its slim-line 9.5mm diameter allows it to fit into space-constrained applications easily and aid many machine building headaches, whilst stroke ranges from just 0-0.5mm up to 0-100mm gives it a broad range of displacement and position measurement capabilities.

The miniature LVDT has a non-contact measuring principle meaning that the moving core of the LVDT is not in contact with the internal components.  This gives the miniature LVDT a very long-life expectancy and high reliability, even in high cycle applications.

Installation is fast and simple with its variety of configuration options to suit your application including core only, spring-loaded core, extension rods, cable exit direction and cable lengths.  See the part builder below for all the options and configurations, plus instant pricing and lead times!

Ideal applications for the miniature LVDT include material testing machines, production and development test rigs, quality assurance testing, automotive and aerospace actuators and within pressure sensors.  Thanks to its non-contact moving core, it is also suited to high cycle applications.

The AML/M LVDT is available with AC mV/V or DC/DC electrical outputs.  The DC/DC output is achieved by fitting a signal conditioner in-line on the LVDT’s cable inside a small, lightweight plastic enclosure (see gallery image above).  Outputs available are 0-5Vdc, 0-10Vdc or 4-20mA, all of which are 3-wire format.  Both 4-wire and 6-wire AC versions are also available.

The 6-digit LED intuitive INT4 digital panel meter is available to use with the LVDT offering superb resolution and stability in any application and comes with a 10 point linearisation for outstanding accuracy.  It offers a modular construction so you only pay for the options you require.  We also have the intuitive Lite version low cost LVDT indicator with the same high precision with no plug-in options.  Ideal for low cost applications.  Email us for more information.

Our miniature displacement sensor is available in 3 different mechanical configurations:

  • Core Only (C) - Suited to OEM applications where an extension rod or connection point already exists.
  • Un-Guided Core & Extension Rod (X) - Suited to applications where you wish to physically attach the LVDT’s plunger to the moving point that you need to measure.
  • Spring Loaded Core & Extension Rod with Ball-Tip (S) - Suited to applications where the piece to be measured can’t always be in contact with the LVDT plunger, or where physical attachment of the LVDT plunger to the test piece is not possible.

As with all our LVDT type position sensors, the sensing principle is contactless which makes it an extremely robust, long-lived sensor. We can also provide customisation to suit your application so please contact us if you would like to discuss the possibilities in your particular application.
